Based on standard AAR designs, Lionel 50' Double-Door Boxcars are accurate, finely-detailed models of a freight car widely produced in the late steam and early diesel era. The extra length and added side door were especially useful for automobile and furniture loads. Many railroads also owned a version that featured swinging doors at one end of the boxcar, especially useful for auto loading and unloading.
