MP 18 2-PACK 1 SUNSHINE SPECIAL 18 PASSENGER CARS

  • Departing St. Louis for the sunny Gulf Coast and California, the Sunshine Special was aptly named. The train operated over the Missouri Pacific and its subsidiary the Texas & Pacific. Connections extended service from Louisiana to Los Angeles and Mexico City. The Sunshine included coach and sleeping accommodations, dining and lounge service and was usually filled out with ample head-end traffic, often running in multiple sections. While some cars in dedicated service on this train received Sunshine Special letter boards, the evershifting consist would have regularly seen cars lettered for the MoPac and its s ubsidiaries. In 1933 the train was one of the first to receive air conditioning. In 1946, connecting service with the Pennsylvania brought the Sunshine Special name to New York City - a truly coast-to-coast venture. In 1948, The Texas Eagle replaced the Sunshine as the MoPacs premier passenger train. The Sunshine Special would continue to serve for several years however, with the Pennsylvania extension becoming the Penn- Texas. Soak in the rays with one of Americas classic heavyweight consists in this new set! The perfect companion to the LEGACY Mountain, this train captures all the best of railroading at its zenith.
