The Southern Pacific built on the success of their D aylights with a special nocturnal train between Los Angeles and San Francisco / Oakland. The Daylight name and brilliant paint scheme seemed out of place, so the Lark came in two-tone gray. The train was an immediate success, selling out almost nightly to businessmen wanting comfortable and efficient overnight trips.
