MAERSK GP-60M ATLAS W/ TMCC

 

Introduced in 1985 as the refined replacement for the five-year-old 50-series locomotives, the GP60 (and sister SD60) represented a significant leap in locomotive design for EMD. Incorporating computer technology to control locomotive operation and onboard diagnostics, the 3800 hp GP60 just may be the "ultimate" geep. Designed for hi-speed intermodal traffic, this locomotive could be found on the major transcontinental carriers in the service for which they were designed. In fact, a variation of the GP60 become so associated with the Santa Fe in the early 1990s, it came to represent the best that railroads had to offer in quality service.
