078 TRAIN CONTROL BLOCK SIGNAL (1924-32)

 

O Gauge, die-cast combination square base and rectangular relay box, embossed on front with riveted door and hinge detail, embossed on sides with rivets, most embossed on one side "MADE BY / THE / LIONEL CORP / NEW YOUR / PATENTED" Open on back and fitted with fiber or Bakelite panel held by two screws, embossed or engraved "No. 078 / FOR / 'O' GAUGE TRACK" wires labelled "1 2 3" emerging through three holes at upper right, control lever projecting at lower right, rolled-steel pole topped by platform with four trapezoidal cutouts in bottom, ladder fitted between relay box and platform, die-cast signal head resembling old- fashioned traffic light fitted into platform and held by two screws, three sides each with two round openings fitted with one red and one green steel ring and celluloid disk, pointed top, open at back with brass insert stamped with door detail and punched with eight holes, two bulbs inside, train stop circuit.
