Lionel pre-1100

MICKEY MOUSE HAND CAR 1934

First appearing in 1934, these clockwork toys gave Lionel a product with a low retail price- important in those Depression-torn days. Legend claims these toys were responsible for preventing the collapse of Lionel, but like many legends around the company, a lot of myth added to the mystique.
  • But we are certain this car, designed by Walt Disney himself, pulled Lionel out of bankruptcy.
  • When introduced as an uncataloged item in 1934, the hand car had a red base. On it rode Micky and Minnie Mouse, furiously pumping the levers.
  • The figures were make from plaster and most found today are broken, often missing an ear, an entire head or other parts.
