Lionel pre-112

LIONEL CITY STATION

This large pressed-steel station was sold from 1931 through 1934. Constructed to resemble a major metropolitan terminal of stone construction, ' LIONEL CITY' was embossed over its doors. Also above the doors were embossed ornamental clocks with celluloid faces. Station was lighted and had a removable skylight and 4 opening doors on either side. As kids, we used to say that many railroads copied the Lionel design. One version (Type 1) was built with pea green roof, cream sides and terra-cotta base. Type II had beige walls. Type III had a mojave base with ivory walls, with apple green window inserts and pea green skylight. Type IV had ivory walls and red base, roof, skylight, window inserts and doors. The 112 does not have exterior lights. Type 113 has gold-painted outside lights holding tulip- shaped bulbs flanking the doors on one side of the station.
