191 VILLA TERRACOTTA PEA GREEN METAL

 

1923-32. Uncatalogued and available on scenic plots through 1942. Steel construction, two story plus attic design with added wing (called a 'sun porch' or 'train room' by many collectors). Enameled base, walls, hip roof with chimney and with or without two large dormers. Separate window and door inserts. Open porch area with flat roof surrounded by decorative railing. Some with decal or rubber-stamped 'NO. 191 VILLA/MADE BY/THE LIONEL CORPORATION/NEW YORK' in black on underside of base. Illuminated. 7 1/8 x 5 x 5 1/4 high. Many variations are known. Bases may be painted mojave, tan, hiawatha gray or pea green. Walls may be enameled cream, yellow, terracotta or red crackle or lithographed to represent dark or light red brick. Porches may be enameled ivory, cream or yellow. Dormers (when present) may be enameled cream, yellow, sand, light red, crackle red or pea green. Roofs may be enameled red, light red, pea green, apple green or gray. Porch roofs may be cream, sand, mustard, mojave or hiawatha gray. Window inserts may be ivory, pea green, apple green or Stephen Girard green. Doors may be ivory, brown, maroon, red, pea green, apple green, Stephen Girard green or simulated wood grain. Chimneys may be lithographed brick or enameled cream, sand or yellow. Yellow is probably the rarest. Roof railings may be gold or nickel and roof paint may be pea green, dark green, gray or red.
