Lionel pre-226e

226E STEAM LOCO WITH DIECAST WHISTLE TENDER

Built from 1938 to 1941. This 2-6-4 loco is diecast. Engine has nickel rimmed drivers, separately applied boiler piping, flag holders on the pilot, detailed cab interior with fire box, fire box light under boiler, and ornamental metal whistle and bell. Another special feature on this loco is that the railings are held on with the metal stanchions, not the cotter pin system. Tender 2226E is diecast and has twelve metal wheels (not sintered). The tender was attached to the engine by means of the Pre-War draw bar system. This is a beautiful example of a Lionel Pre-War steamer. There are details on this engine that you do not see on Post-War engines. This large scale detailed boiler casting was introduced in 1938 and was used for the "top-of-the-line" Lionel locomotives. These were discontinued after WWII.
