LIONEL PRE-WAR 261W FREIGHT SET WITH 226E LOCO

 

Made between 1940 and 1941 only. Freight set consisting of a 226E locomotive with a 2226W tender and three freight cars - a 2816 coal hopper, 3811 log car, and a red and brown 2817 caboose
  • The caboose is the super rare late 1940 version with heat stamped lettering replacing seperate matal name/number plates as a wartime metal conservationmeasure
  • The black hopper with white heat stamped letters is even rarer, replacing the red and green hoppers. It is belived that this version of the black hopper with electrmagnetic couplers was made only during the last few days of production before all train manufacturing was switched to wartime goods
  • This set was the top of the line 0-gauge steam set, bested only by the 763 Hudson (O-72) set
