Built in 1941 and 1942The Irvington and Manhattan Cars were the cream of the late prewar passenger crop, with production extremely limited by the advent of World War llThis scale- detailed Pullman had a Bekelite body painted tuscanCars were numbered/named either 2623 MANHATTAN 2623 or 2623 IRVINGTON 2623 in white heat stamped lettersThey were equipped with the same 6 wheel timplate truck used on 2226W, and 2263W Tenders used with the 763 Hudsons and 226 2 -6-4 locosThese trucks added to the massive appearance of these cars and they were a sight to beholdThe paint flaked off many of the cars if the bakelite was not thoroougly cleaned; cars with no flaking are difficult to findThe heat stamping did not penetrate the baklelite very deeply so if the paint is missing so is the evidence of the heat stamping |
