Lionel pre-294 set

252 PASSENGER CAR SET O GAUGE (1926 - 1929)

Contains 252 locomotive, two 529 Pullman cars, 530 observation car, 88 rheostat, 068 warning signal, eight curved and two straight track sections, and set directions. This was one of the most popular O gauge train sets Pre-War Lionel would produce, and retailed for $9.75. All sets reported with an olive 252 locomotive. Sets from 1926 had engines with strap headlights, and combination latch couplers. From 1927 on, the headlights were cast. The 529-530 passenger cars were olive green with mottled blue celluloids. Some early ones had maroon trim with no journals - most had orange trim with or without nickel journals. The set came in a type IV set box, with individual component boxes. Lionel also sold a version of this set to Sears with an extra affixed label printed "Customer's Special Catalog Number - 5189". Sears sold this set for the bargain basement price of $8.79 but, except for the special label, it was otherwise identical to the other 294 sets for the given year.
