381E STANDARD GAUGE LOCOMOTIVE (1928-1936)

 

Standard gauge, produced 1928 - 1936 At the time, the largest and most elaborate locomotive ever constructed by Lionel, yet only powered by one motor. State green body, apple green sub-frame, black frame, brass plate numbered 3 81E, Bild-A-Loco Motor with reversing unit. Description as written in the Lionel catalog "Distant-Control Bild-A-Loco Locomotive for Lionel Standard Track. This locomotive is the most elaborate in the Lionel line. The illustration shows the great detail incorporated in it, and special mention is made of the construction of the two-4-wheel pilot trucks which will not derail even when the locomotive is traveling at a high rate of speed. The 'Bild-A-Loco' motor and 'Distant-Control' mechanism can be removed from the body in a jiffy. The boy can at will take down and rebuild this motor within a few minutes.
