CARDBOARD WARTIME FREIGHT TRAIN SET

Made in 1943 only. World War II paper train set. The set came in cardboard sheets and had to be assembled, which was a very daunting task even for t he most skilled parent. Lionel produced this set i n cardboard because all metals were needed for the war effort, some of which was being used in the Lionel factory for building submarine parts. The set included a Steam engine, tender, gondola, boxcar, caboose, 198 inches of "O gauge" track, highway flasher, crossing gate, cardboard engineer, fireman, and brakeman figures, and cardboard loads for the freight cars. This set is very tough to find because not many people saved it after the war when electric toy trains were available again, and even fewer people saved the box. This set appears to be complete, although construction was attempted. The box is the real jewel of this piece. Great item for the collector.
