Lionel pre-57y

LIONEL 57 YELLOW LAMP POST - ALSO SOLD AS AMERICAN FLYER 2013 LAMP POST

Built between 1922 and 1942. It had a diecast base on which stood a rolled sheet metal post topped with a distinctive lamp housing. This cubical housing with formed sheet metal base and top had white celluloid sides that the light could shine through. Street names were rubber stamped on the sides alternately - usually MAIN STREET and BROADWAY. There are a number of different varieties in street names. Also making appearances were FIFTH AVENUE and 42ND STREET, BROADWAY and 21ST STREET and the much rarer combination of FIFTH AVENUE and 21ST STREET. One also appeared with all four names on the same post - BROADWAY, FIFTH AVENUE, 21ST AND 42ND STREETS. All of the aforementioned were painted orange. American Flyer also sold the 57 under its own catalog number 2013. The only difference besides being stamped '2013' on the underside rather than the Lionel number was that it was painted yellow instead of orange. Came only with the MAIN STREET/BROADWAY combination.
