Lionel pre-603,03,04 red set

RED, CREAM, AND BLACK PULLMAN THREE CAR SET

The 603/604 appeared in many different color schemes and sizes over the years. It is unclear exactly when Lionel first started producing them because they were originally uncatalogued items. However, they can be pinpointed to the early 1920s. The first ones were seven inches long and were painted yellow and orange. The first red 603/604s began appearing in 1930 with black roofs, cream trim, copper journal boxes, and latch couplers. There were variations with white trim as well as yellow trim, and the later ones had nickel journal boxes and red roofs. They were produced in some form of red variation through 1936.
