Lionel pw-1045

LIONEL 1045 OPERATING FLAG MAN CROSSING

Produced by Lionel from 1946 until 1950, this was a carry-over Pre-War accessory (made from 1938 until 1942). When a train approaches, the solenoid energizes and attracts the roller which applies torque to the shaft due to the offset. This causes the man's arm to rise. When the current is interrupted, gravity restores the arm to its resting place. Features a painted metal base and pole with railroad crossing sign, bakelite flag man with painted flesh-colored face and flag (figure measures 4 1/2" high), 1045C contactor, and an early Middle Classic box with insert. Tough piece to find with intact flag.
