OPERATING FLAG MAN CROSSING
|Produced by Lionel from 1946-50, this was a carryover prewar accessory(1938-42). Operating Watchman. When a train approaches, the solenoid energizes and attracts the roller, which applies torque to the shaft due to the offset. This causes the arm to rise. When the current is interrupted, gravity restores the arm to its resting place. Features; painted metal base and pole, with RR Xing sign, bakelite flag man with painted flesh face and flag(figure measures 4 1/2" high), 1045C contactor, and early middle classic box with insert. Tough piece to find with intact flag.
