This was the first of three inexpensive outfits shown in the advance catalog, but not in the consumer catalog. Most of these outfits came in a display-type box with racing Santa Fe F-3 diesels and baby Hudson steam locomotives printed on the hinged lid. A cardboard insert protected the unboxed components of the set. Some outfits came in tan two-tier conventional outfit boxes, again with unboxed components. The inexpensive steam locomotive at the lead was paired with the 1050T slope-back tender, which rode on arch-bar trucks, and like the rest of the cars in this outfit, had a fixed coupler. The payload for the locomotive-tender combination consisted of an undecorated maroon General-style flatcar carrying a yellow automobile with gray bumpers, a blue "LIONEL" gondola with red canisters and an undecorated caboose. The red body of the caboose was attached to its end-rail equipped black frame with tabs. None of the cars had operating couplers.
