12730 SANTA FE SET 1964

The 12730 set was built around the previous 12720 set, which in turn was built on the two sets prior to it. Contents: 2383P, 2383T, 6464-725 orange New Haven box car, 6162 blue gondola with three canisters, 6414 auto loader, 6476 yellow Lehigh Valley hopper, 6437 illuminated Pennsylvania porthole caboose, eight curved and five straight sections of track, UCS uncoupling/operating section and an LW transformer. The components in this outfit were the same as those included in the 12720, but this set also contained an LW transformer as part of a special offer. The outfit box was a two tier flat white conventional style with orange lettering. Each Santa Fe unit came in a corrugated carton made by the Mead Company with tuck-in end flaps. One item of special interest in the set is the auto loader which usually came with gray-bumpered red autos, but it may have surfaced with the scarce but cheapened red and yellow autos that did not have wheels, bumpers or a windshield. The outfit box was the same style with orange lettering but had dimensions completely different from the 12720 in order to accommodate the component-boxed LW transformer.
