1949 2020 TURBINE STEAM FREIGHT SET

This was Lionel's top-of-the-line O27 set for 1949. It contained the very impressive 2020 6-8-6 turbine steam locomotive. Though officially designated as an O27 model, Lionel used the exact same body mold to make it as they did the O Gauge 671 and later, the 681. The tender was the standard early square tender 6020W. Five freight cars were included, of them two were operating cars. The 3656 cattle car with ramp was new for 1949 and was a very exciting accessory. The 1949 was unique to that year because the car had the "ARMOUR" stickers on both sides and the gates to direct where the cattle went were orange. A very scarce versions of the car had black lettering instead of the typical white lettering. The 3469 dump car was pretty much identical to the 3459 of previous years except that it had magnetic couplers instead of coil couplers. It was packaged in a 3469X box with only the coal in the box with the car. The 160 sat loose in the set box. The other cars included were the 6411 diecast flatcar with logs, 6465 two dome Sunoco tank car and 6357 SP-type caboose. This is a somewhat unique set because it was one of the few that included a transformer. It came with a 1033 90 Watt transformer. The set also came with eight curves, 11 straights, and a 6019 operating track section.
