TEXAS SPECIAL F-3 AB FRT 0-27 SET (1954)

A rare and interesting set, produced by Lionel in 1954. Newly issued for 1954, Texas Special F-3 AB was Lionel's first example of a single motor F-3, and the first AB combination. Also this was the first ever lower priced 0-27 F-3 set issued by Lionel. At $59.95, it was $10 to $30 cheaper than it's 0 gauge counter parts. The Texas Special F-3 has become one Lionel's most desired F-3'S with its beautiful red and white paint scheme. All the rolling stock was new for 1954. Contents included: 2245 Texas Special F-3 AB with silver trucks, 6464-225 S.P.Boxcar(Type 2A), 6561 flatcar w/cable reels, 6462-25 NYC green gondola with six wooden barrels, 6427 Lionel Lines caboose, 0-27 track included; 8 curves and 5 straight sections, 6019 uncoupling track, boxed 1033 transformer, and lock-on and wire. Paperwork included; How to Operate booklet, Service Station booklet, F-3 directions, UCS/6019 directions, 1033 directions. The set box was the 1953-54 circle-L type. The powered A came in a corrugated carton with liner, while the B unit came in a Middle Classic box with liner. The remainer of the rolling stock also came in Middle Classic boxes. The gondola sometimes came in a restamped box with the "-25" suffix added to designate green. Overall Texas Special sets as a whole have become very tough to get because people paid the extra $10 or $30 to get O-gauge version's of the F-3 sets.
