MILWAUKEE ROAD GP-7 FREIGHT SET (1956)

This set was offered in 1956 only. It was the first set to be headed up by the No. 2338 Milwaukee Road GP-7. It was also the first set to include the No. 6430 Cooper-Jarrett flatcar with vans, 6464-425 black New Haven boxcar, and the No. 6346 Alcoa covered hopper. This set also includes a green 6462 gondola and a 6257-50 SP-type caboose, eight curves, three straights, an operating track section, and a 1053 transformer. The original set came in a two-level basket-weave box. The Milwaukee GP-7 came in two variations. The more common version has an all-black cab, which interrupts the orange stripe that runs around the body. The very rare version has an orange stripe that runs through the bottom half of the cab as well. This engine comes with a Pullmor motor and a battery operated horn. The Alcoa car came in three variations - with blue, black, and red lettering (the red is by far the rarest version). The New Haven boxcar has variations based on the completeness of the "N" in the NH logo. All of the rolling stock has die-cast, bar end trucks and magnetic couplers on both ends. By this time, each Lionel set was unique in its consist and was usually pretty colorful.
