BURLINGTON ALCO PASSENGER SET (1958)

This was a unique and rare set, that included two new rare items for 1958. The 216 Burlington Alco A (made for one year only in 1958) and the new painted dark green 6572 REA reefer. This outfit and the 1608W New Haven passenger set(also from 1958), are the two most highly sought Postwar conventional Alco sets. Set contents; 216 silver painted Burlington Alco A loco, painted 6572 Green Railway Express Car, 2432 Clifton Vista Dome Car, 2436 Mooseheart Observation. Track included; 8 Curved and 3 Straight 0-27 Track, 6029 Uncoupling Track, 1015 (45 Watt) transfomer, lockon and wire, and tube of lube. Paperwork included; Lionel Train Outfit and Alco directions. The outfit box was standard O-27 basket weave type, with number printed on one side. The engine came in the new corrugated carton made by Express Container CO. with standard end flaps that were exclusive to 58. Interior engine packaging included two cardboard rings that were inserted as coupler protectors (these are almost always missing). To this day a sought after set for it's beauty and rarity.
  • Set has sometimes also been found with the 6019 uncoupler track which has 5 rails (for operating cars) as well a magnet. The 6029 operating track listed in various references has a magnet only. The 6019 is preferable
