1971 #10 TRAIN COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION F-3 AA
Lionel produced these F3 Bodies in 1971 in a special run with a unique color, and METCA had them painted in a co-ordinated plan with Lionel to celebrate METCA's 10th aniversary. Lionel had been purchased in 1970 by General Mills and used the Post-War F3 mold for this occasion. This was the only recorded production run by General Mills using the Post-War mold unchanged from the Lionel days, and the METCA Jersey Central is considered to be an integral part of a Post-War collection. No Post-War F3 collection is complete without one! When production on F3's was resumed in 1973 with the CP and B&O, the mold was modified to eliminate the louvers on the nose. Only one body was available to each member (about 250 at the time) at a cost of $5.00 each. The price jumped to $150 before the show opened and they were delivered, because every F3 collector wanted two so he could have an AA! We were there - and the boss (Don Shaw) paid the price! The bodies were supplied without bases and this one just came in from a collection (METCA is the NJ/NY chapter of the TCA, and the Jersey Central was one of our good local railroads. This is the only Jersey Central F3!). (BOXES WERE NOT PRODUCED FOR THIS ITEM) |
