3 CAR MADISON HEAVYWEIGHT SET WITH BLACK GG1 !!!!!

 

the first GG1 set ever, and has stood the test of time and neary sixty years later remains one of the most highly prized sets of all time. The set was first issued as number 2124W in 1947, and as the 2144W in 1948 - 1949. Contents in 1948 were the 2332 Single Motor GG1, 2625 Irvington, 2627 Madison and 2628 Manhattan Pullmans. (In 1947 one common number 2625 was used for all 3 car names, These magnificent models of heavyweight Pullman cars have Bakelite bodies that are painted tuscan red. They featured detailed frames and six-wheel trucks. As such, they were the most realistic and technically advanced of all prewar passenger cars. The coach, typically referred to as a "Madison" or an" Irvington" car, was revived for postwar production. Initially, Lionel relied on a single number, 2625, to specify a ny of the three illuminated Pullman's with different names. Then in 1948 it went to three numbers, the 2625 Irvington, 2627 Madison, 2628 Manhattan.
