215 SANTA FE ALCO AA

The Lionel Santa Fe FA No. 215 was issued uncataloged in 1965 and would head up several sets available through the Sears and J.C. Penney Companies. It was available from J.C. Penney as part of set # X924-8279A in 1966, in various combinations of AA and AB units. Painted in the Santa Fe war bonnet paint scheme, it was equipped with one traction tire on the power truck. A two position directional unit where the control lever was adjustable from the top of the body controlled the direction of this diesel. A single vertical worm drive Type IIIB motor powered two axles. The lettering was heat-stamped on these units and the sheet metal chassis have solid non-operating couplers. There are two variations: a) came with a powered A unit and a # 218C dummy B unit. The B unit can come with or without the "BLT 8-57" date. The other variation b) came with a powered A unit and a # 212T or # 215T dummy A unit.
