2343 SANTA FE F-3 AA O-GAUGE FRT. SET (1950&51)

  • The Set runs great and is in nice condition as well as the rolling stock. The 2343 is the first Santa Fe with magnetraction and all the detail of the 2333 model.
  • First introduced in 1950 at $57.50, this set was repeated in 1951 at an increased price of $70. The #2343 w/Magne-Traction was the successor to #2333. Lionel decided to give both the Santa Fe and New york Central F-3's their own stock numbers, #2343 and #2344 respectively. The porthole lenses, for these diesels, were also revised by making them flatter, celluloid type resembling contact lenses. all rolling stock was "run-of-the-mill". The outfit box was the new 1950 style without the printed retail price(orange printed field with blue letters), 1951 had the same style set box without the orange background field. The operating boxcar #3464 appears with either Santa Fe or NYC markings. The powered unit was packed in a corrugate carton w/protective corrugate liner. The dummy unit however, came in a Middle Classic box as did all rolling stock but, it did have a corrugate liner. SET INCLUDES: #2343P Santa Fe F-3 A unit (dual motors, Magne-traction, headlights, operating front coupler); #2343T Santa Fe F-3 dummy A unit (headlight, operating front coupler); #6456 maroon Lehigh Valley hopper; #3464 AT&SF operating boxcar; #6555 Sunoco single dome tanker in 1950, and an 6465 Sunoco two-dome tank car in 1951(usually found in the rarer over- stamped 6555 box); #6462 black gondola w/barrels; #6457 illuminated Lionel SP-type caboose w/added detail.
