2190W LIONEL SANTA FE PASSENGER SET (1952)

The 2190W set (named "Super Speedliner") originally came with Santa Fe 2343/2343T AA units, and four silver metal passenger cars (2531,32,33, and 34). The set also included eight curved track sections, nine straight track sections, a UCS remote control track, CTC Lockon, tube of lubricant, and instruction booklet. The F3 units had a small black GM decal on the sides (replacing the prior large red GM decal). They also had newly designed snap-in portholes. The following is quoted from "Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains - 1945-1969 Volume 3 (Sets) by Paul V. Ambrose: "It is rather difficult to obtain a matched set of passenger cars since the earliest examples had the light socket assembly wired directly to the contact roller (instead of the wireless assembly), and Lionel seemed to be experimenting with both rivets and glue as a means of attaching the nameplates. Another variation could be the boxes that the passenger cars came in. Most of the cars came in OPS traditional boxes but it is possible that some could have been shipped in Middle traditional boxes". The Greenberg book states that the box was standard issue for 1951 and 1952 (blue lettering in blue frame), except they were also stamped with the $89.95 retail price.
