NEW HAVEN F3 A-A PAIR ***RARITY 4+ IN THE GREENBERG GUIDE***
Arguably the most attractive F3 Lionel made during t he Postwar era (1945-1969), these New Haven F3s were built in 1958 and 1959. The A-B was available i n two freight sets - the 2507W in 1958 and the 2537W in 1959. They were also available for separate sale. The frames of these units are painted silver, and the truck guards are painted black. The portholes are closed, and it has the louvered roof vents like the other late-1950s Lionel F3s. The bodies are fully painted, and the orange lettering was applied with a heat stamp. The New Haven railroad did not actually own any F units. The paint scheme on these was taken from the NH's Fairbanks-Morse P12-42 locomotives, which were similar in appearance to the EMD F units found on dozens of railroads across the United States. The powered unit features one vertically-mounted Pullmor motor, Magne-Traction, a three-position electronic reverse unit, operating horn (requires a D Cell battery for operation), and a headlight. The dummy unit has a headlight only - the horn is in the powered unit. The cab ends of these units have operating couplers, while the blank ends have non-operating short knuckles. Important Note: Sold from the factory, the 2242 New Havens came as an A-B pair. This item is an A-A pair, one is powered and the other is a dummy. |
