LIONEL 2243 SANTA FE F3 AB UNITS

 

Made from 1955 until 1957. F3 AB units, silver and red "Warbonnet" paint scheme with red, yellow, and black rubber-stamped detailing stripes, louvered roof, closed portholes, black heat- stamped lettering, small heat-stamped "GM" on door panel, wrap-around "Santa Fe" decal on nose, one piece ornamental horns, molded cab door ladder, window shell, number boards, and headlight lens. Silver chassis with silver painted pilot and chemically blackened side frames, single vertical motor, Magnetraction, three position E- unit, lighted, horn, operating coupler on pilot, and diecast fixed couplers at all other ends. Original instruction sheet is titled "Instructions for Operating Single Motor F3 Diesel Locomotives with Magne-Traction" form 2243-4--5-57--tt (extra dashes are correct). Original loco box is corrugated, labeled "2243-15", and made by the Allcraft Container Corp., Harrison, NJ. "100% Kraft" is printed under the seal and "linerboard" printed under that, followed by "57" printed underneath. The B unit box is standard orange, numbered "2343C" on the edge of the flap, and numbered "2243-12" on the inner end flap portion. Master carton is numbered "2243" on the end, with seal stating "Manufactured by St. Joe Paper Co. Division, 80 Hackensack NJ" (yes, "80" is printed there!). Also has "10 11 12" in sequence printed in the 5 o'clock area outside and below the seal.
