2350 NEW HAVEN EP-5 ELECTRIC FREIGHT SET (1956)

 

  • Lionel selected its newly designed multicolored NH EP-5 locomotive to head this outfit
  • The loco is a replica of the New Haven's class EP-5 electric loco, built by GE, and is equipped with a single motor with magnetraction, horn, operating couplers on both ends and pantographs which can be used to draw power from overhead catenary to operate the loco
  • The N on the side and the New Haven Lettering could be white or orange (very rare), both with either painted noses or decaled noses
  • The set included: 2350 New Haven EP-5 electric, 6464-425 New Haven Boxcar, 6430 flatcar with vans (gray with Cooper-Jarrett nameplates), 3650 searchlight Extension car, 6511 brown pipe car, 6427 Lionel Lines porthole caboose, O gauge track included; Eight curved and five straight, UCS remote Control track section, and lock-on and wire
  • Also Included a 1956 How to operate booklet, 1955-56 Lionel Service Stations booklet, Directions (2350-16, 3650-38, 6019-16), and 1955 or 1956 billboard sheet
  • Set box was new basket Weave type for 1956, and the rolling stock came in Late Middle Classic boxes (caboose came in a box stamped 6427-1). The engine came in a 1955-design corrugated carton without liner (hence The tight fit would lead to the usual worn area on the decal edges).
