Lionel pw-2333-01 nyc f3 aa

2333 NEW YORK CENTRAL F3 AA UNITS: RED GM DECAL ABOVE 'BUILT BY LIONEL' LETTERING, BLOCK LETTERED RUBBER STAMPED NYC LETTERING

  • This is a scarce (possibly rarity 5) variation, with Large RUBBER STAMPED lettering commonly called BLOCK lettering. (The normal 2333 NYC F3 has smaller HEAT STAMPED lettering) Decals may be above the 'Built by Lionel Lettering' or forward of the 'Built by Lionel' on the Door, and aparently can be either Red and White or Black and White on the Block Letter Variation
  • Most AA's found have one Block Lettered Shell and one heat stamped shell
  • Built 1948-1949. F3 AA units with black bakelite body mold with dark gray and light gray lightning bolt paint scheme with white rubber stamped detailing stripes, wire cloth ventilator on roof and open portholes, with lenses and white lettering
  • New York Central decal on nose and black and white GM decal, two piece ornamental horns, cab door ladder, window shell, number boards, headlight lens, and grab irons on nose, gray chassis with gray painted pilot and side frames with steps
  • Twin horizontal motors, no magnetraction, three position E-unit, lighted headlights in both units, horn in powered unit, operating coupler on pilots and die-cast fixed couplers at other ends.
  • Note that the earliest bodies were made of black plastic (bakelite) to which paint adhered poorly if the bodies were not properly cleaned before painting. Examples are almost always found with flaking paint, a problem shared with Madison Cars.
  • Generally speaking, if the paint is still there today, it will remain ok
  • Most units found with Block Letters have had Grey GM decals. But we have found one set (SERIAL 9850) with Red GM decals
