Lionel pw-2339

2339 WABASH GP-7 DIESEL (AVAILABLE IN 1957 ONLY)

Lionel only produced its Wabash GP-7 (General Purpose) diesel in 1957, and it was one of the more attractive paint schemes with which Lionel chose to grace a "GP" diesel. This engine was available as part of set 2275W, and for separate sale. Lionel made a similar engine for 1958 - the 2337 - but that edition did not have operating couplers. The 2339 features the powerful Pullmor motor, Magnetraction, diecast trucks, headlights at both ends (which also illuminate the number boards), operating couplers, and an operating horn (D cell battery required, but not included). The body was molded in blue plastic. The gray and white areas were painted. There are ornamental horns and wire hand rails on both sides of the cab. The frame and heavy handrails are painted black. The box was a Late Classic style with a corrugated insert.
