2353 SANTA FE F3 ABA TRIPLE UNIT DIESEL

Produced between 1953 and 1955, this Santa Fe Warbonnet 3-unit F3 was the third such offering during the Post-War era. Each prototype EMD F3 A unit could boast 1,500 horsepower. The Santa Fe, at its peak roster size, contained 46 A units and 46 B units. They were very versatile, and were used for both freight and passenger service. Lionel's 2353 featured a few changes from the previous models of F3 diesels. This one has louvered roof vents instead of separately applied screens. Also, the GM logo is heat-stamped on (instead of being applied with a decal as it was on the 2333 and 2343 versions). The front grab handles were also removed. A big difference from the operators perspective was that the horn was moved to the dummy unit. This three unit set features two horizontally mounted Pullmor motors, a three position electronic reverse unit, operating couplers at the head end of each unit, the aformentioned horn (requires a D cell battery for operation) and Magnetraction. There are a couple of variations in these units. The biggest variation revolves around a dimple in the roof of each unit behind the louvers. This was added to the 1954 and 1955 units to cover up a flaw in the body mold discovered in the initial production run.
