2356 SOUTHERN F3 ABA DIESEL

Built from 1954 until 1956. The 2231 Southern F3 set was cataloged in 1954 only, with a three unit ABA loco. AA locos (without B units) were cataloged until 1956. B units were sold seperately, making them quite scarce. The bodies are painted green over a grey molded cab. The gray lower side stripe and front are unpainted grey plastic with a yellow rubber-stamped detailing stripe. Roof is louvered and portholes have snap- in lenses. Yellow lettering was applied with rubber-stamping equipment techinques and should appear grainy compared to silk screen reproductions which are solid lettering. A units have a "Southern" decal on nose, two piece ornamental horns, seperately applied cab door ladder with window shells, number boards and headlight lens but no grab irons on nose. Chassis is diecast metal painted black with black painted pilot and black painted side frames with steps. Powered unit has twin horizontal motors, Magnetraction, three position E-unit, headlight in both A units, operating coupler on pilots and diecast fixed couplers at other ends. Horn is in the non-powered A unit, which also has operating coupler on nose, fixed coupler on rear, headlight and full diecast base and truck.
