2379 RIO GRANDE F3 A ONLY (RARITY 4)

1957-1958. F3 A unit only, yellow painted body with green painted nose and silver painted roof and lower side stripe, louvered roof and closed portholes, black heat stamped lettering and detailing stripes, wraparound Rio Grande decal on nose, one piece ornamental horns, molded cab door ladder, window shell, number boards, and headlight l ens, black chassis with black painted pilot and chemically blackened side frames, twin vertical motors, magnetraction, three position E-unit, lighted, horn, operating coupler on pilot and die-cast fixed couplers at all other ends
  • The Rio Grande was so difficult to produce with so many steps involved that there are virtually no units with perfect silver. For this reason we rate the Rio Grande's (along with the Western Pacific's) as the toughest of all F3's to find in perfect or near perfect condition. (See our video)
  • Also note that practically all nose decals have deteriorated over the molded intake port on the nose of the A unit. This occurs because decals a pplied over the molded air spaces, will detoriate, break up, flake away and eventually vanish.
