ALUMINUM PASSENGER CAR

 

Built 1952-59. Ribbed channels; nameplates attached by large roundhead black rivits. The major innovation of the 1952 product line was the introduction of the extruded aluminum 2500-series passenger cars. a companion baggage car was introduced in 1954. The original body design included ribbed channels above and below the car windows. To provide mounting space for the decorative metal stripes bearing the markings used b y the Pennsylvaina Railroad for its Congressional cars, Lionel modified the bodies in 1955 to eliminate some of the fluting above and below the windows. these cars are refered to as Flat channel versions. condition=
