Lionel pw-3419-1

3419 FLAT CAR WITH DOUBLE BLADE NAVY HELICOPTER

Perhaps the most recognizable of Lionel's miltary and space cars was the helicopter launching car offered from 1959 until 1965. The body was made of blue plastic, which ranged from medium blue to a dark (almost purple) shade. The white heat-stamped lettering included "LIONEL" and the number "3419", which was stamped just to the left of the name, and AAR-type trucks with operating couplers supported the car. A wind-up mechanism was mounted under the car, and a spindle on top of the deck engaged the bottom of the helicopter, which was carried on the spindle. A separate cradle supported the tail of the helicopter. The mechanism was wound manually, and the helicopter could be launched manually, or by using a remote- control track section.
