497 COALING STATION

This is the last complex coal handler built by Lionel. The accessory straddles the track, and has a dump bin that is raised via motor and strings. When the bin reaches the top of the station it dumps coal into two hoppers with doors. They in turn (when opened with the proper lever on the control box) release the coal back into a waiting coal dump car on the track below. Fascinating operation which is controlled by a four way remote control switch. Built from 1953 until 1958.
