54 BALLAST TAMPER (MOTORIZED UNIT)

Built from 1958 until 1961, and again from 1966 until 1969. Individual red tampers on front go up and down as vehicle moves along the track under it's own power, simulating real railroad ballast tampers, making the track and roadbed smooth and secure. Will pull several cars, having Pullmor motor and Magnetraction. When tampers are shut off, loco moves at a much higher speed and slows down when tampers are turned on. Tamper is actuated when unit passes track actuator (part no. 3360-125), and turns off when it passes a second actuator. Unpainted yellow body with black heat- stamped lettering, oranemental horn, flexible antenna on rear, gray housing with red tampers, rubberized blue man in cab, forward only, and with a fixed coupler. Instruction sheet is labeled "54-60 dtg 10-58". Inspection sticker is # 511.
