STATE OF MAINE BOXCAR WITH RED DOORS & WHITE BODY MOLD

 

  • The State of Maine 6464 boxcar was produced in 1955, then again from 1957 through 1959. Types 1 and 2 were both produced in 1955
  • The type 1 body was molded in white plastic and had an unpainted red door
  • The type 2 was molded in royal blue plastic that was left unpainted in the blue areas of the car. Doors were molded in white plastic
  • If classified by rivet detail both 'Type 1 and type 2 were type 2A, with only 3 full columns of rivets to right of the door; to left of door the second rivet column was short with only 5 rivets (three at top and two at the bottom)
  • The 6464-275 has the most door variations of any car in the series, the one thing that is consistent is that all are Mutliblock doors. This version has the solid red door Most came on a Type 2A body mold (Lionel made several minor changes to the body mold of its boxcars over the years. The variations center mostly around the rivet patterns on the sides).
