LIONEL GIRLS SET NEW YORK CENTRAL AQUA BOXCAR

This car was built either in 1957 or 1958. Its body is a Type IIb 6464. The Girls Set was an attempt by Lionel to tap into a market (women) that the company previously saw as a weakness. The trains in the set were all painted in vibrant, pastel colors. Unfortunately for them, the set didnot sell well. Fortunately for collectors, thelow sales volume translated into the accruement of ridiculous value. The body of this car is painted aqua and the lettering is heat stamped. The doors are painted in yellow. This car features magnetic couplers on bar-end trucks, as well as a separately applied brake wheel and door guides.
