Lionel pw-6800

6800 FLAT CAR WITH AIRPLANE

Built between 1957 and 1960. Red molded frame with car number and "LIONEL" heat-stamped in white letters on the side. The type 1 car - the original produced in 1957, has bar-end metal trucks mounted on blued steel mounting plates, and "6800" heat-stamped on the right. The 1958 model (type 2) has AAR-type trucks riveted directly to the body, with the number remaining on the right. The type 3 was produced later in 1958, and the heat- stamped number was moved to the left of the word "Lionel". The load is a yellow and black model of a Beechcraft Bonanza airplane with retractable landing gear and folding wings. The original planes have identifying markings molded into the underside of the fuselage. These markings read "No. 6800-60 AIRPLANE THE LIONEL CORPORATION NEW YORK, N.Y. MADE IN U.S. OF AMERICA". Aircraft is unpainted and assembled in two ways - either black upper surfaces and yellow propeller, or yellow upper surfaces with black propeller.
