6816 FLAT CAR WITH ALLIS CHALMERS TRACTOR DOZER

Built from 1959 to 1960. 6511-2 or 6424-11 type flat car carrying an orange plastic Allis-Chalmers bulldozer. The bulldozer was too fragile to be played with and most were broken, which makes this car one of the hardest Post-War cars to find with an original unbroken bulldozer!
  • Red or black molded flat car with heat-stamped "6816" to left of "LIONEL" in white serif letters. AAR trucks riveted directly to the body of the car
  • Three versions of the car exist: a) red molded 6511-2 flat car, b) red molded 6424-11 flat car and c) black molded 6424-11 flat car (this one is very scarce). All were heat-stamped "6816" when sold with the bulldozer
  • Load is an orange molded model of an Allis Chalmers bulldozer retained with a 6418-9 elastic band
  • There are six variations of the bulldozer with types 1 to 5 molded in dark orange, and type 6 molded in lighter orange. Type 1) heat-stamped "ALLIS CHALMERS" in white on seat back - "TORQUE CONVERTER" emblem heat-stamped on seat sides in black, raised "ALLIS CHALMERS" lettering molded on both sides of hood, surface heat-stamped in black, 2) raised "ALLIS CHALMERS" letters on hood no longer blackened, 3) same as 2, except "HD 16 DIESEL" added in black above torque converter emblem on seat sides, 4) identical to 3 except rear drawbar shortened and the holes filled in, 5) same as 4 except seat back lettering changed to black, and 6) same as 5 except all parts molded in light orange
  • Types 1 and 6 are the hardest to find, but any original is virtually impossible to find unbroken!
