3464 SANTA FE OPERATING BOXCAR (1949) TYPE 1 BROWN DOOR WITH LADDERS

 

Built from 1949 to 1952. 9 and a quarter inch operating box car. Orange painted body with black heat-stamped lettering. Car also numbered "63132". A.T.&S.F. (Santa Fe) logo on left and technical data on right. Brake wheel and operating plunger mechanism with rubberized man. Staple-end trucks with magnetic couplers. 1949 production had brown painted metal doors and a frame with metal ladders on 4 corners (part of the frame stamping - not seperately applied). 1950 production had chemically blackened metal doors with ladders (part of stamped frame - not seperately applied). 1951 pieces had the metal doors retained and the ladders eliminated. 1952 production had black plastic doors. A very rare variation exists which is tan color - usually used for the X3464 NYC - and has white heat stamped letters.
