X3464 SANTA FE OPERATING BOXCAR (1950), TYPE 2 - BLACK METAL DOORS WITH LADDERS

 

Made by Lionel between 1949 and 1952. 9 and a quarter inch operating box car, orange painted body with black heat-stamped lettering, car also numbered 63132, A.T. & S.F. (Santa Fe) logo on left and technical data on right, brake wheel, operating plunger mechanism with rubberized man, staple end trucks with magnetic couplers. 1949 production - brown painted metal doors, frame with metal ladders on four corners (part of the frame stamping, not seperately applied). 1950 production has chemically blackened metal doors and ladders. 1951 production has chemically blackened metal doors but ladders were eliminated. The 1952 version has black plastic doors and no ladders. A very rare variation exists which is tan in color, usually used for the X3464 NYC and has white heat-stamped letters.
