SANTA FE OPERATING BOX CAR (1952), TYPE 4, BLACK PLASTIC DOORS, NO LADDERS

 

  • Built from 1949 until 1952. 9 1/4" operating box car, orange painted body with black heat- stamped lettering, car also numbered 63132, A.T.&S.F. (Santa Fe) logo on left and technical data on right, brake wheel, operating plunger mechanism with rubberized man, staple end trucks with magnetic couplers
  • 1949 production: brown painted metal doors, frame with metal ladders on four corners (part of the frame stamping, not seperately applied)
  • 1950 production: chemically blackened metal doors with ladders
  • 1951 production: ladders eliminated, blackened metal doors retained
  • 1952 production: black plastic doors, no ladders
  • A very rare variation exists which is in the same tan color used for the X3464 NYC - has white heat- stamped letters.
