        | This is part of Lionel's continuing Mint car  series. All Mint cars have become highly sought  after due in part to the locales of the various  US Mint operations. Located in North Carolina,  the United States Mint in Charlotte was first  erected in 1835 during the Carolina Gold Rush.  Coinage of gold began here and would continue  until 1861 when N. Carolina seceded from the  Union. The Confederacy took control, continued  coining operations for a short time, it's  eventual closing was final.
