SOUTHERN PACIFIC W/AUTO RACK LOAD (2008)
Based on a standard AAR design, Lionel 50' Double-door boxcars are accurate, finely-detailed models of a freight car widely produced in the late steam and early diesel era. On the railroads, the extra length and added side door were especially useful for automobile and furniture loads. Many railroads chose to use a version of the 50' double-door boxcar that also featured swinging doors at one end of the car to make automobile loading and unloading even easier.
