| This was the first consumer catalog printed for 1998, with an interesting history. Lionel would take some major flack from retailers and Operation Lifesaver for picturing a child standing on the tracks(the next catalog would feature an Operation Lifesaver boxcar). Otherwise this was one of Lionel's most innovative catalog design's to date. With 72 pages it has something for everyone. Featured items included the new Odyssey motor system(still a few years away), S.F. and NYC FT AB units, Pratt Hollow Phantom engine, BNSF Dash 9, Centennial GP-20 with 4 reefers, assorted new GP's(including the rare Hot Rod engine), Erie Alco PA-1, O-27 Thomas the Tank set, animated Giraffe car with sounds, 9464 series die-cast boxcars, Lionel factory kit, and lots more. A great catalog thats also intermingled with numerous real shots of acual trains. |
